SimpleGrid
Install: npm install @mantine/core@9.7.1 @mantine/hooks@9.7.1
Version and compatibility
Pinned Mantine Core 9.7.1 requires React and React DOM ^19.2.0 and matching @mantine/hooks@9.7.1, from the installed npm package's peerDependencies. Do not force it into React 18 or another incompatible version. Explain upgrade impact and agree on a plan with the project owner; do not hide conflicts with --force/--legacy-peer-deps. The native Provider enables theme.respectReducedMotion and uses forceColorScheme for light/dark.
Use case
Create equal-width responsive columns.
Native props used by this example
These props are extracted from the local typechecked JSX and grouped by their owning native component. This is not an exhaustive prop list; see pinned source signatures and inheritance below.
| Component prop | Explanation |
|---|---|
SimpleGrid.cols | Column count or responsive column configuration. |
Interaction and state checks
Current scenarios: Default. Check actual behavior after selecting supported disabled/error/read-only scenarios; components without those native states do not receive invented universal props. Verify keyboard focus and exits, then connect changed values through the native callback signature.
Business integration boundary
Demo content/state is local, without server persistence, authorization or fetching. A static display component is not a completed business workflow.
Host setup
Install pinned @mantine/core and @mantine/hooks, import @mantine/core/styles.css at the entry and use MantineProvider. The example's theme/variant are JGuang-authored host props, not universal native component APIs; forceColorScheme synchronizes the app theme. Native implementation source is a reading reference: use npm exports rather than copying internal engines. This batch covers Core, not dates/charts/forms extension packages. Detailed upstream prose remains English.
Runnable usage
import { useState } from 'react';
import * as M from '@mantine/core';
import '@mantine/core/styles.css';
function ComponentPreview({ variant = 'Default' }: { variant?: string }) {
const content = <M.Text>Build something beautiful / 构建美好的界面</M.Text>;
return <M.SimpleGrid cols={2}>{content}{content}</M.SimpleGrid>;
}
export default function Example({ variant = 'Default', theme = 'light' }: { variant?: string; theme?: 'light' | 'dark' }) {
return <M.MantineProvider forceColorScheme={theme} theme={{ respectReducedMotion: true }}><ComponentPreview variant={variant} /></M.MantineProvider>;
}
Preview states
Default
The example uses the native Mantine API. For supported input demos, change the local variant to Disabled, Invalid or Read only; these are example labels, not new component props. Keep the documented data, controlled values, stores and compound children when adapting the example.
Usage
SimpleGrid is a responsive grid system with equal-width columns.
It uses CSS grid layout. If you need to set different widths for columns, use
Grid component instead.
spacing and verticalSpacing props
The spacing prop controls horizontal spacing between columns. By default, it is also used
for vertical spacing between rows. If you want different vertical spacing, set the
verticalSpacing prop explicitly:
import { SimpleGrid } from '@mantine/core';
// `spacing` is used for both horizontal and vertical spacing
const Spacing = () => <SimpleGrid spacing="xl" />;
// `spacing` is used for horizontal spacing, `verticalSpacing` for vertical
const VerticalSpacing = () => (
<SimpleGrid spacing="xl" verticalSpacing="lg" />
);
Responsive props
cols, spacing and verticalSpacing props support object notation for responsive values,
it works the same way as style props: the object may have base, xs,
sm, md, lg and xl key, and values from those keys will be applied according to current
viewport width.
In the following example, cols={{ base: 1, sm: 2, lg: 5 }} means:
- 1 column if viewport width is less than
smbreakpoint - 2 columns if viewport width is between
smandlgbreakpoints - 5 columns if viewport width is greater than
lgbreakpoint
Same logic applies to spacing and verticalSpacing props.
Container queries
To use container queries
instead of media queries, set type="container". With container queries, grid columns and spacing
will be adjusted based on the container width, not the viewport width.
Note that, when using container queries, cols, spacing and verticalSpacing props cannot
reference theme.breakpoints values in keys. It is required to use exact px or em values.
To see how the grid changes, resize the root element of the demo with the resize handle located at the bottom right corner of the demo:
Auto-fill columns
Set the minColWidth prop to use CSS Grid auto-fill to automatically adjust the number
of columns based on available space and minimum column width. When minColWidth is set,
the cols prop is ignored.
auto-fill vs auto-fit
By default, minColWidth uses auto-fill behavior. You can change it to auto-fit with the
autoFlow prop. The difference between the two:
auto-fillcreates as many tracks as possible without overflowing the container, leaving empty tracks if items don't fill the rowauto-fitworks the same way but collapses empty tracks, allowing items to stretch and fill the remaining space
Auto rows
Set the autoRows prop to control the size of implicitly created grid rows.
This is useful when you need all rows to have equal height or a minimum height.
Browser support
SimpleGrid uses CSS Grid Layout, it is supported in all modern browsers.
If you need to support older browsers, use Grid (flexbox based) component instead.
When type="container" is set, SimpleGrid uses container queries.
Since February 2023, container queries are supported in all modern browsers. If you need to support older browsers,
do not use container queries option.
Source-backed parameter reference
Implementation signatures and types are generated from the pinned local source. Optional props, native inherited types, union branches and never exclusions are preserved. A forwardRef implementation's ref is a React reference, not an additional business prop.
