Install: `npm install @mantine/core@9.7.1 @mantine/hooks@9.7.1`

## Version and compatibility

Pinned Mantine Core 9.7.1 requires React and React DOM `^19.2.0` and matching `@mantine/hooks@9.7.1`, from the installed npm package's peerDependencies. Do not force it into React 18 or another incompatible version. Explain upgrade impact and agree on a plan with the project owner; do not hide conflicts with --force/--legacy-peer-deps. The native Provider enables `theme.respectReducedMotion` and uses `forceColorScheme` for light/dark.

## Use case

Animate an indicator between referenced targets.

## Native props used by this example

These props are extracted from the local typechecked JSX and grouped by their owning native component. This is not an exhaustive prop list; see pinned source signatures and inheritance below.

| Component prop | Explanation |
| --- | --- |
| `Box.pos` | Mantine positioning style prop. |
| `Button.variant` | Native visual variant; not the gallery's scenario identifier. |
| `Button.onClick` | Local click handler; replace demo logic with an explicit business action. |
| `Button.style` | Local style/layout object. |
| `FloatingIndicator.parent` | Reference to the containing DOM element. |
| `FloatingIndicator.target` | Target DOM reference or selector required by this component. |
| `FloatingIndicator.bg` | Mantine background style prop. |
| `FloatingIndicator.style` | Local style/layout object. |

## Interaction and state checks

Current scenarios: Default. Check actual behavior after selecting supported disabled/error/read-only scenarios; components without those native states do not receive invented universal props. Verify keyboard focus and exits, then connect changed values through the native callback signature.

## Business integration boundary

Requires live parent and target DOM refs; the initial null refs are valid. Do not pass an index instead of an element.

## Host setup

Install pinned @mantine/core and @mantine/hooks, import @mantine/core/styles.css at the entry and use MantineProvider. The example's theme/variant are JGuang-authored host props, not universal native component APIs; forceColorScheme synchronizes the app theme. Native implementation source is a reading reference: use npm exports rather than copying internal engines. This batch covers Core, not dates/charts/forms extension packages. Detailed upstream prose remains English.

## Runnable usage

```tsx
import { useState } from 'react';
import * as M from '@mantine/core';
import '@mantine/core/styles.css';
const fruit = ["Apple", "Banana", "Orange"];
function ComponentPreview({ variant = 'Default' }: { variant?: string }) {
const [indicatorParent, setIndicatorParent] = useState<HTMLDivElement | null>(null);
const [indicatorTarget, setIndicatorTarget] = useState<HTMLButtonElement | null>(null);
return <M.Box ref={setIndicatorParent} pos="relative"><M.Group>{fruit.map((item, index) => <M.Button key={item} ref={index === 0 ? setIndicatorTarget : undefined} variant="subtle" onClick={(event) => setIndicatorTarget(event.currentTarget)} style={{ position: "relative", zIndex: 1 }}>{item}</M.Button>)}</M.Group><M.FloatingIndicator parent={indicatorParent} target={indicatorTarget} bg="blue.1" style={{ borderRadius: 8 }} /></M.Box>;
}
export default function Example({ variant = 'Default', theme = 'light' }: { variant?: string; theme?: 'light' | 'dark' }) {
return <M.MantineProvider forceColorScheme={theme} theme={{ respectReducedMotion: true }}><ComponentPreview variant={variant} /></M.MantineProvider>;
}
```

## Preview states

Default

The example uses the native Mantine API. For supported input demos, change the local variant to Disabled, Invalid or Read only; these are example labels, not new component props. Keep the documented data, controlled values, stores and compound children when adapting the example.

## Usage

`FloatingIndicator` is designed to highlight the active element in a group.
It can be used to create custom segmented controls, tabs and other similar components.

`FloatingIndicator` renders an element over the `target` element. To calculate the position, it is
required to pass a `parent` element. **The parent element must have `position: relative` CSS property** –
this is essential for correct positioning. The component returns `null` and renders nothing if either
`target` or `parent` is not provided.

By default, `FloatingIndicator` does not have any visible styles. You can use the `className` prop
or [Styles API](/styles/styles-api) to apply styles. Note that the indicator's `transform`, `width`,
and `height` styles are set directly via JavaScript to enable smooth position transitions – these
cannot be overridden via the Styles API.

## Multiple rows

`FloatingIndicator` can be used to highlight the active element in a group with multiple rows:

## Example: Tabs

## Source-backed parameter reference

Implementation signatures and types are generated from the pinned local source. Optional props, native inherited types, union branches and never exclusions are preserved. A forwardRef implementation's ref is a React reference, not an additional business prop.

```ts
FloatingIndicator(_props)
```

```ts
export type FloatingIndicatorStylesNames = 'root';
export type FloatingIndicatorCssVariables = {
  root: '--transition-duration';
};
export interface FloatingIndicatorProps
  extends BoxProps, StylesApiProps<FloatingIndicatorFactory>, ElementProps<'div'> {
  /** Target element over which the indicator is displayed.
   * The indicator will be positioned to match the target's size and position.
   * */
  target: HTMLElement | null | undefined;
  /** Parent container element that must have `position: relative`.
   * The indicator's position is calculated relative to this element.
   * */
  transitionDuration?: number | string;
  /** Controls whether the indicator should be hidden initially and displayed after the parent's transition ends.
   * Set to `true` when the parent container has CSS transitions (e.g., `transform: scale()`) to prevent
   * the indicator from appearing at the wrong position during the parent's animation.
   * @default false
   * */
  displayAfterTransitionEnd?: boolean;
  /** Called when the indicator starts transitioning to a new position */
  onTransitionStart?: () => void;
  /** Called when the indicator finishes transitioning to a new position */
  onTransitionEnd?: () => void;
}
export type FloatingIndicatorFactory = Factory<{
  props: FloatingIndicatorProps;
  ref: HTMLDivElement;
  stylesNames: FloatingIndicatorStylesNames;
}>;
export interface BoxProps extends MantineStyleProps {
### Native and external types
External types remain defined by React or native dependencies, not manually expanded into guessed props. The installed version's TypeScript definitions are authoritative.
```ts
Factory<{
  props: FloatingIndicatorProps;
  ref: HTMLDivElement;
  stylesNames: FloatingIndicatorStylesNames;
  vars: FloatingIndicatorCssVariables;
  ctx: { shouldReduceMotion: boolean };
}>
MantineStyleProps
React.CSSProperties
MantineTheme
Partial<Record<Variable, string>>
Record<Variable, string>
Variable
MantineBreakpoint
Record<string, any>
StylesApiProps<FloatingIndicatorFactory>
React.ElementType
Omit<React.ComponentProps<ElementType>, 'style' | PropsToOmit>
React.ComponentProps<ElementType>
ElementType
PropsToOmit
