Install: `npm install @mantine/core@9.7.1 @mantine/hooks@9.7.1`

## Version and compatibility

Pinned Mantine Core 9.7.1 requires React and React DOM `^19.2.0` and matching `@mantine/hooks@9.7.1`, from the installed npm package's peerDependencies. Do not force it into React 18 or another incompatible version. Explain upgrade impact and agree on a plan with the project owner; do not hide conflicts with --force/--legacy-peer-deps. The native Provider enables `theme.respectReducedMotion` and uses `forceColorScheme` for light/dark.

## Use case

Select independent boolean options.

## Native props used by this example

These props are extracted from the local typechecked JSX and grouped by their owning native component. This is not an exhaustive prop list; see pinned source signatures and inheritance below.

| Component prop | Explanation |
| --- | --- |
| `Checkbox.disabled` | Disable user input/action; not equivalent to readOnly. |
| `Checkbox.error` | Local error display; it does not run validation by itself. |
| `Checkbox.label` | Visible label or component-specific label content. |

## Interaction and state checks

Current scenarios: Default, Disabled, Invalid. Check actual behavior after selecting supported disabled/error/read-only scenarios; components without those native states do not receive invented universal props. Verify keyboard focus and exits, then connect changed values through the native callback signature.

## Business integration boundary

Demo content/state is local, without server persistence, authorization or fetching. A static display component is not a completed business workflow.

## Host setup

Install pinned @mantine/core and @mantine/hooks, import @mantine/core/styles.css at the entry and use MantineProvider. The example's theme/variant are JGuang-authored host props, not universal native component APIs; forceColorScheme synchronizes the app theme. Native implementation source is a reading reference: use npm exports rather than copying internal engines. This batch covers Core, not dates/charts/forms extension packages. Detailed upstream prose remains English.

## Runnable usage

```tsx
import { useState } from 'react';
import * as M from '@mantine/core';
import '@mantine/core/styles.css';
function ComponentPreview({ variant = 'Default' }: { variant?: string }) {
const disabled = variant === "Disabled";
const invalid = variant === "Invalid";
return <M.Checkbox disabled={disabled} error={invalid ? "Agreement required / 请先确认" : undefined} label="I agree / 我同意" />;
}
export default function Example({ variant = 'Default', theme = 'light' }: { variant?: string; theme?: 'light' | 'dark' }) {
return <M.MantineProvider forceColorScheme={theme} theme={{ respectReducedMotion: true }}><ComponentPreview variant={variant} /></M.MantineProvider>;
}
```

## Preview states

Default, Disabled, Invalid

The example uses the native Mantine API. For supported input demos, change the local variant to Disabled, Invalid or Read only; these are example labels, not new component props. Keep the documented data, controlled values, stores and compound children when adapting the example.

## Usage

## Controlled state

Use `checked` and `onChange` props to control `Checkbox` state:

```tsx
import { useState } from 'react';
import { Checkbox } from '@mantine/core';
function Demo() {
  const [checked, setChecked] = useState(false);
  return (
    <Checkbox
      checked={checked}
      onChange={(event) => setChecked(event.currentTarget.checked)}
    />
  );
}
```

## Read only

Set the `readOnly` prop to prevent the checkbox value from being changed by user
interaction. The checkbox still displays its current value and reflects programmatic
updates to the `checked` prop, but clicking it (or pressing <kbd>Space</kbd>) does not
toggle its state and does not call the `onChange` handler:

```tsx
import { useState } from 'react';
import { Checkbox } from '@mantine/core';
function Demo() {
  const [checked, setChecked] = useState(true);
  return (
    <>
      <Checkbox checked={checked} readOnly label="Read only checkbox" />
      <button type="button" onClick={() => setChecked((c) => !c)}>
        Toggle from outside
      </button>
    </>
  );
}
```

## Checkbox with @mantine/form

Example of using `Checkbox` with [@mantine/form](/form/use-form):

## Checkbox with uncontrolled forms

`Checkbox` can be used with uncontrolled forms the same way as native `input[type="checkbox"]`.
Set the `name` attribute to include checkbox value in `FormData` object on form submission.
To control initial checked state in uncontrolled forms, use `defaultChecked` prop.

Example usage of uncontrolled `Checkbox` with `FormData`:

```tsx
import { Checkbox } from '@mantine/core';
function Demo() {
  return (
    <form
      onSubmit={(event) => {
        event.preventDefault();
        const formData = new FormData(event.currentTarget);
        console.log('Checkbox value:', !!formData.get('terms'));
      }}
    >
      <Checkbox label="Accept terms and conditions" name="terms" defaultChecked />
      <button type="submit">Submit</button>
    </form>
  );
}
```

## States

## Light variant

`Checkbox` supports `filled` (default), `outline` and `light` variants. With `variant="light"`, checked and indeterminate states have a light background and a contrasting icon. Colors of the `light` variant are resolved with [theme.variantColorResolver](/theming/colors#colors-variant-resolver), the same way as in [Button](/core/button/) – `color` can be a key of `theme.colors` or any valid CSS color:

## Error state

Use the `error` prop to display error message below the checkbox label.
If you want to apply error styles to checkbox without error message, user boolean `error` prop.
If you want to display error message without applying error styles, set `withErrorStyles={false}`.

## Change icons

## Change icon color

Use the `iconColor` prop to change the icon color. You can reference colors from `theme.colors` or use any valid CSS color:

## Indeterminate state

`Checkbox` supports indeterminate state. When the `indeterminate` prop is set,
the `checked` prop is ignored (checkbox always has checked styles):

## Label with link

## Checkbox with tooltip

You can change the target element to which the tooltip is attached with `refProp`:

- If `refProp` is not set, the tooltip is attached to the checkbox input
- If `refProp="rootRef"` is set, the tooltip is attached to the root element (contains label, input and other elements)

## Pointer cursor

By default, checkbox input and label have `cursor: default` (same as native `input[type="checkbox"]`).
To change the cursor to pointer, set `cursorType` on [theme](/theming/theme-object/):

## Add custom sizes

You can add any number of custom sizes with [data-size](/styles/data-attributes/) attribute:

## Checkbox.Group

`Checkbox.Group` manages the state of multiple checkboxes, it accepts `value` and `onChange`
props, which are used to control the state of checkboxes inside the group. The `value` prop should be an array of strings, where each string is the value of a checkbox.
The `onChange` prop should be a function that receives the new value as an array of strings.

```tsx
import { useState } from 'react';
import { Checkbox } from '@mantine/core';
function Demo() {
  const [value, setValue] = useState<string[]>([]);
  return (
    <Checkbox.Group value={value} onChange={setValue}>
      <Checkbox value="react" label="React" />
      <Checkbox value="svelte" label="Svelte" />
    </Checkbox.Group>
  );
}
```

`Checkbox.Group` component supports all [Input.Wrapper](/core/input/#inputwrapper-component)
props.

## Checkbox.Group disabled

## maxSelectedValues

Use `maxSelectedValues` prop to limit the number of selected values in `Checkbox.Group`.
When the limit is reached, the remaining checkboxes are disabled and cannot be selected.

## Checkbox.Group with @mantine/form

Example of using `Checkbox.Group` with [@mantine/form](/form/use-form):

## Checkbox.Group with uncontrolled forms

`Checkbox.Group` can be used with uncontrolled forms, it renders a hidden input
which joins all checked values into a single string using `hiddenInputValuesSeparator` prop.

Props for usage with uncontrolled forms:
- `name` – name attribute passed to the hidden input
- `hiddenInputValuesSeparator` – string used to join checked values into a single string, `','` by default
- `hiddenInputProps` – additional props passed to the hidden input

```tsx
export function UncontrolledForm() {
  return (
    <form
      onSubmit={(event) => {
        event.preventDefault();
        const formData = new FormData(event.currentTarget);
        console.log('Checkbox group value:', formData.get('frameworks'));
      }}
    >
      <Checkbox.Group label="Frameworks" name="frameworks" hiddenInputValuesSeparator="|">
        <Checkbox label="React" value="react" />
        <Checkbox label="Angular" value="ng" />
      </Checkbox.Group>
      <button type="submit">Submit</button>
    </form>
  );
}
```

## Checkbox.Indicator

`Checkbox.Indicator` looks exactly the same as the `Checkbox` component, but it does not
have any semantic meaning, it's just a visual representation of checkbox state. You
can use it in any place where you need to display checkbox state without any interaction
related to the indicator. For example, it is useful in cards based on buttons, trees, etc.

Note that `Checkbox.Indicator` cannot be focused or selected with keyboard. It is not
accessible and should not be used as a replacement for the `Checkbox` component.

`Checkbox.Indicator` supports the same `variant` values as `Checkbox`: `filled`, `outline` and `light`.

## Checkbox.Card component

`Checkbox.Card` component can be used as a replacement for `Checkbox` to build custom
cards/buttons/other things that work as checkboxes. The root element of the component
has `role="checkbox"` attribute, it is accessible by default and supports the same
keyboard interactions as `input[type="checkbox"]`.

You can use `Checkbox.Card` with `Checkbox.Group` the same way as the `Checkbox` component:

The example above shows how to get ref of the checkbox input element.
To get ref of the root element, use `rootRef` prop:

```tsx
import { useRef } from 'react';
import { Checkbox } from '@mantine/core';
function Demo() {
  const ref = useRef<HTMLDivElement>(null);
  return <Checkbox rootRef={ref} />;
}
```

## Example: Table with row selection

## Example: Customize with Styles API

## wrapperProps

Most of the `Checkbox` props are passed down to the `input` element.
If you want to pass props to the root element instead, use `wrapperProps` prop.

```tsx
import { Checkbox } from '@mantine/core';
function Demo() {
  return (
    <Checkbox
      label="My checkbox"
      wrapperProps={{ 'data-root-element': true }}
    />
  );
}
```

## id attribute

By default, `Checkbox` generates a random `id` attribute for the input element
to associate it with the label. You can supply your own `id` attribute with `id` prop.
It will be used in `id` attribute of the input element and `htmlFor` attribute of the label element.

```tsx
import { Checkbox } from '@mantine/core';
function Demo() {
  return <Checkbox id="my-checkbox" label="My checkbox" />;
}
```

## Accessibility

Checkbox component is based on the native `input[type="checkbox"]` element, so it is accessible by default.

Set `aria-label` or `label` prop to make the checkbox accessible for screen readers:

```tsx
import { Checkbox } from '@mantine/core';
// Not ok, input is not labeled
function Bad() {
  return <Checkbox />;
}
// Ok, input is labelled by aria-label
function GoodAriaLabel() {
  return <Checkbox aria-label="My checkbox" />;
}
// Ok, input is labelled by label element
function GoodLabel() {
  return <Checkbox label="My checkbox" />;
}
```

## Source-backed parameter reference

Implementation signatures and types are generated from the pinned local source. Optional props, native inherited types, union branches and never exclusions are preserved. A forwardRef implementation's ref is a React reference, not an additional business prop.
